Christmas is an expensive time of year for all families but we know for the families we support it can be a time of worry, stress and upset to not be able to provide presents for your children to open on Christmas Day.
At Christmas parents and carers can visit our ‘Christmas Shop’ here at Wood Street to pick presents their children would most like, from a range donated to us for ages 0-14 years. We may also have other treats like advent calendars and selection boxes to take home.
If you think you may need help with toys and treats for your children this Christmas, please visit our For Families page which will tell you what to do next to be referred to us, or ask someone supporting your family to visit our For Referrers page. All our services are free for families to access.
How You Can Help
Christmas for many of us is a time of joy, gifts, and precious time with family. However it’s also an expensive time of year, and can be an especially difficult time for those families struggling to make ends meet. Wood Street Mission has provided toys for local children at Christmas since the charity began in 1869, and it continues to be our busiest time of year. Every year, thanks to our supporters, we collect thousands of toys and goodies to distribute to families in need across Manchester and Salford.
To be able to provide this support we need:
- Your donations of new toys for children aged 0-14 years, ‘treat’ items such as advent calendars and selection boxes, and wrapping paper. Please select ‘Donate Items’ below to arrange a collection, or you can drop off with us here at Wood Street.
- Your time! Christmas is our busiest time of year so we need lots of help sorting donations of toys and Christmas goodies and at our Christmas Party – you can even wear your best Christmas Jumper (or elf costume…..!)
- You can also raise funds – why not hold a Christmas Jumper Day – or choose to make a financial donation below.
We rely on donations to provide this and other services to families who need our help. We really appreciate any support you can give.
