Families on a low income can struggle to afford to buy books for their children, and not all live near a local library so access to books can be limited outside of school. Yet reading can transform lives.
Our school holiday Book Clubs aim to inspire a love of reading, encourage families to read together and improve literacy. Children can choose from a wide range and take home a big bag of their very own books from the thousands we bring to each event, thanks to our supporters.
In addition they can come for lunch and enjoy an afternoon full of activities, all provided for free during the holidays which can be an expensive time for families on a tight budget. If you are a family who would like to come to one of our Book Clubs, please contact us for upcoming dates.
How You Can Help
- Support our Book Appeal 2019! This year instead of Easter Eggs we are appealing for donations of brand new books for children aged 0-16 years, to distribute through our Book Clubs and school Roadshows. For further details download our flyer and poster. Share our Appeal online and spread the word – #woodstreetbookappeal
- Your time! We are always looking for volunteers to help at our Book Clubs, with setting out the venue, running the activities and making sure children and their families have a great time. Please contact us for more details.
- You can also choose to make a financial donation below. We rely on donations to provide this and other services to families.
If we hadn’t been referred to Wood Street, I’m sure my son’s love of books wouldn’t have happened.
