We know that both books and school holiday activities can be expensive. Each school holiday we hold Book Clubs out in community venues. Children can come along with their family, enjoy an afternoon full of activities, have lunch and take home a big bag of their very own books from the thousands we bring to each event.
If you are a family who would like to come to one of our Book Clubs, please visit our For Families page which will tell you what to do next to be referred to us, or ask someone supporting your family to visit our For Referrers page. All our services are free for families to access.
How You Can Help
Families on a low income are very often unable to buy books for their children and not all live near a local library so access to books can be limited outside of school. Our Book Clubs aim to promote an enjoyment of reading, encourage families to read together and improve literacy. Thousands of children have attended our Book Clubs so far and the feedback from many parents has confirmed that the reading ability and enjoyment their children have has been helped by attending. To be able to hold our Book Clubs, we need:
- Your donations of excellent quality children’s books, for all ages. We also have demand for study aids and revision guides.
- Your time! We are always looking for volunteers to help at our Book Clubs, with setting out the venue, running the activities and making sure families have a lovely time.
- You can also choose to make a financial donation below. We rely on donations to provide this and other services to families.
We are excited to be developing our Book Clubs as we approach our 150th Anniversary next year – watch this space for further details!
