The Zochonis Charitable Trust, one of our Wood Street Heroes and a big supporter of the Smart Start Project. They shared why they have stood alongside us for so many years, explaining that “it is our core area of support and Wood Street has been tackling poverty in Greater Manchester and Salford for over 150 years. We are impressed with your sourcing network for good-quality school uniforms.”

Their commitment runs deep: “Since 1993, the Trust has been pleased to support Wood Street Mission with grants now totalling almost £750,000. We hope to continue this support.” When asked what they find most rewarding, they told us that “it is the tangible difference that Wood Street make to disadvantaged families that is most rewarding.”

With 93,000 children living in poverty across Manchester and Salford, their advice to anyone wanting to make a difference is simple and powerful: “Get organised, agree clear aims and then make a difference in breaking the cycle of poverty.” And for those considering supporting Wood Street Mission, whether individually, in the workplace or through a business, their message is clear: “Give generously!” Looking ahead, they hope to continue helping local children and families.
