Ellie Öri, one of our wonderful Wood Street Heroes from the Halfway House pub, chose to support Wood Street Mission this year through the Joseph Holt charity partnership, Wood Street Mission is one of four charities selected by the brewery to support. Ellie told us she picked Wood Street Mission because it felt closest to her heart and to the community she serves. Throughout 2025, she has thrown herself into fundraising with incredible energy — “charity pots on the bar, raffles and football cards throughout the year, a 28.5‑mile bee marathon walk, and an 80‑mile Christmas walk,” all helping to raise vital funds for local families.

For Ellie, the most rewarding part has been “coming to visit the charity and see the work that gets done with all the brilliant donations.” She’s even brought her team along for the fun, sharing that she “dressed them up as bees to support the walk, and included them in raffle draws etc.”

When asked what she’d say to someone wanting to make a difference, her message is simple: “Do what you can — no matter how big or small, your contributions make a huge impact.” And for anyone thinking about supporting Wood Street Mission, she doesn’t hesitate: “Do it! It’s so rewarding.” Looking ahead, Ellie plans to continue collecting donations and is already gearing up for a summer bike ride to raise even more support.
