Manager’s Update – Coronavirus closure and plans for the future.

14th May 2020

It’s been seven weeks since we closed the doors of Wood Street to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. Our Crisis Service has continued to provide support for the most vulnerable families and details of how to access this can be found on our referrers page. If you need help right now or know someone who does please get in touch with us.
We’re so grateful to all of our families for their understanding and our supporters for their kindness and numerous messages of support and offers of help.
As you know, the Government has announced some changes to the country's lockdown position and we're now working to adapt our services and reopen in a safe and controlled manner. Keeping families, staff and volunteers safe as lockdown restrictions ease is paramount and means we need to maintain social distancing, but we know many families are needing support so we will work as quickly as possible to meet that need.
One of our strengths throughout our 150 year history has been our ability to adapt. We’ve been through many changes over the years and as the needs of our families have changed, our projects have evolved. We see this time as no different and we will adopt a ‘new normal’ ensuring that we can still support as many families as possible in as safest way possible.
We’ll be in touch with families and referrers to share news of reopening our services as soon as we have firm plans in place. We will keep everyone updated via social media and our website and look forward to opening our doors soon.
But we need your help! We will need donations of children’s clothing, books and toys and other items for our Family Basics service. If you have suitable items – good quality second hand or new, please can you put them to one side for us and we will update you as soon as possible as to when we can collect or accept drop-offs. Unfortunately we can't give you a date just yet.
We are all very much in this together. We have no doubt that demand for our support will be higher than ever and if you are in a position to support us, we would be incredibly grateful and you can donate online.
If you have any queries then please just drop us an email to or via social media.
Thanks for your patience and we hope you are all keeping well.
