Volunteering
We are very fortunate at Wood Street Mission to be supported by a network of volunteers who donate their time and energy to our work year after year.
Our small team of regular volunteers at Wood Street are an invaluable asset to our operation. Whether they are sorting clothes, distributing parcels to clients or packing big bags of toys and gifts for children at Christmas time, our volunteers play a vital part in the day to day running of Wood Street Mission.
Many other volunteers help by acting as collection points for us - giving up space in their garage, or similar, to store donations to Wood Street from people within their community. This type of support is a great help to us as it reduces the number of trips our collection van has to make, saving us both time and money.
Christmas is our busiest time of year and we have to draft in extra volunteers in order to cope with the volume of parcels and people (we supply more toys to more children over two weeks at Christmas than we do for the remaining 50 weeks of the year!). For the several years now we have been generously supported in this way by Cobbett's Solicitors, who lend us 20 or so trainee solicitors every Christmas!
Volunteers Needed
- Are you adept at public speaking? We are always in need of volunteers to promote our work by giving speeches at schools, places of worship and other groups.
- We also need volunteers to help us with fundraising - get in touch with your own idea for raising money for Wood Street or help out with one of our existing schemes.
- We need volunteers to help us by distributing leaflets in residential areas - telling local people about the work that we do and the goods that we need donations of.
- Could you act as a collection point for your community? If you have the room at home/work/school/place of worship to store donations from your local area you could be a great help to Wood Street Mission. We can collect from you as often as you need (up to once a week).
