"A big thank you for donating all the Easter Eggs. We were able to offer all our residents and their children eggs and also able to do two Easter Eggs hunts which they all enjoyed.
Thank you again for your support. What would we do without Wood Street Mission. Keep up the fantastic work you do."
Children's Officer, Housing Association Refuge for women.
Financial Donations
Wood Street helped over 11,500 local people in 2009, including direct help for 7,369 local children.
To provide a year's worth of clothing, bedding and toys, including gifts at Christmas, for 10 children it costs Wood Street Mission around £250. To provide enough goods for an average family of four it costs us around £90 a year.
We are a small charity doing a big job and we're dependant on donations from the public in order to continue and expand our work so that we can help more and more people in need. Every donation helps us to make a real, positive difference to local children and families who are affected by poverty.
Please use the tabs to the right to find out more about the different ways that you can donate to Wood Street Mission.
Standing Orders
One of the best ways that you can help us to help local families in need is by donating to Wood Street Mission by standing order. This type of regular, ongoing support allows us to plan ahead and make the best use of your money. It also helps us to reduce administration costs. If you are a UK tax payer you can also Gift Aid any financial donation that you make to Wood Street Mission. This allows us to reclaim the tax paid on your donation from the Inland Revenue - increasing your gift by almost a third, at no extra cost to you.
- A donation of £7.50 per month would allow us to provide a year's worth of practical help for one family of four, including food and gifts at Christmas time.
- A donation of £25 per month could pay for a year's worth of clothing, bedding and toys for 12 disadvantaged children, including gifts at Christmas.
- No matter how much you decide to give, your donation will help us to provide a vital service to local children, young people and families affected by poverty.
If you would like to donate to us in this way please complete a Standing Order Form, instructing your bank to allow a regular gift to Wood Street Mission every month, quarter or year. Simply print it out, fill it in and post it back to us.

Legacies: Remembering Wood Street Mission in Your Will
Leaving a gift to Wood Street Mission in your will is a truly wonderful way to support our work. This kind of charitable gift can also significantly reduce or even eliminate the inheritance tax liability on your estate as all legacies to registered charities are tax-free.
There are two different types of legacy: Residuary Legacies & Pecuniary Legacies.
- A residuary legacy is a gift of the remainder of your estate (or a percentage of the remainder) after all other outgoings and gifts to friends and family have been dealt with. This is usually the most beneficial type of legacy as its value increases in line with inflation.
- A pecuniary legacy is a gift of a fixed amount of money. This type of legacy tends to decrease in value over time due to rises in inflation. A pecuniary legacy of £1,000 written in 1980, for example, would now be worth less than £380. However, it is possible to make arrangements to ensure that a legacy remains at its intended value.
If you would like to make arrangements in your will to leave a legacy to Wood Street Mission simply contact your solicitor. It's a quick, easy and inexpensive procedure.

A donation to charity in lieu of flowers at a loved one's funeral is a wonderful way to remember someone. If you would like to make such a donation to Wood Street Mission you can do so via cheque or postal order. Please include a name and address so that we can convey our thanks.
