Helping local children & families
since 1869

The Christmas Project

Each year Wood Street Mission undertakes its annual Toy and Food Appeal, asking all our donors and corporate neighbours to help raise funds and donations towards our Christmas Project.

Our aim is simple: We wish to help local families in need and ensure that their children all have a Christmas present on Christmas Day. We are also keen to ensure that the parents receive a food hamper containing a variety of items to help the family over the Christmas period.

Back in 1869 when the Mission was first formed local children and their families were offered a hot meal on Christmas Day here at Wood Street. Our vision remains the same today with toys and a food parcel given to every family referred to us for help.

Each child up to the age of 13 will receive one new toy, one or two good quality second hand toys, a book and a game or jigsaw. Each family will receive a substantial food hamper which will include non perishable items of fish or meat, fruit, vegetables, pasta or rice, soup, tea or coffee, biscuits, pudding, chocolates and one or two luxury items.

How can you help?

Between October and the first week of December we are happy to collect donations from your home, school or place of work.

Ring the office to book a collection in your area.

Alternatively you may wish to offer a financial contribution to our work. The Christmas Project is expected to cost in excess of £18,000 this year so any donations towards meeting these costs will be greatly appreciated.

"I am writing to thank you for the toys and food parcels that were given to the families we support. They were very much appreciated and made such a difference to their lives at Christmas. Thank you once again for your support."
