Happy Memories

We have been helping local families at Christmas since the 1870s and thousands of people have fond memories of being helped by us in the past.

Often it was at a time when things were very tough for their family and yet they happily remember the experience of coming to Wood Street to queue up and get a toy.

In the first half of the nineteenth century the toy distribution was held on Boxing Day and was a major event attended by civic leaders.

In the 1960s we started giving out toys and food in the run up to Christmas so parents could wrap the presents themselves.

Sadly, today, our Christmas Project is still our largest with more than twice the number of families referred for help as at any other time of year.

Donate to our appeal online and make a difference to a struggling family this Christmas.
