2012: What a year!

2012 proved to be an incredibly busy year for Wood Street Mission.

Through our Clothing project we were able to help almost 3,000 children and over 1,700 parents with clothing, bedding and baby equipment.

At Easter time we were almost overcome with donations of chocolate eggs! We received over 6,000 Easter eggs and were able to help more than 1,700 kids with chocolate treats as well as providing food hampers for over 700 families. We shared the excess donations of eggs with other organisations that work with local families in need, including several women’s refuges.

Our 2012 Uniform Project was our largest yet, and we were able to provide over 1,000 vulnerable children and teenagers with a free school uniform in August, ready for the new school year in September, helping them stay in school and access a full education.

Our Book Clubs, which ran during every school holiday and half term, continued to go from strength to strength, with more than 40 children benefitting from each Club.

Christmas was our busiest on record with more than 4,100 children and 1,900 families being referred to us for help with toy and food parcels. It was a tall order but thanks to the generosity of our supporters we were able to help each and every family that came to us for help.

More than 10,000 children received help from Wood Street Mission through our various projects in 2012. We remain a small charity, with only 7 staffs. Thanks to our incredible supporters and volunteers we’ve been able to make a real difference to literally thousands of lives over the past 12 months.

Throughout 2012 people have done incredible things to help us to support local children in need. Our amazing supporters have cycled to Luxembourg, tackled 10km assault courses in the depths of winter, climbed the three highest peaks in the UK and, in the case of one little girl, saved her pocket money up for months just to buy a toy for our Christmas Project. We've been helped by a few famous faces this year too, with Tina O'Brien, Justin Moorhouse and the Lancashire Cricket Team all lending us a hand in 2012. We even had a visit from a giant mouse called Roly!

It's been an amazing year and we are so greatful to every single person that has helped us in 2012. Can't wait to see what 2013 wil bring!
