Christmas Shop

We have opened a Christmas community shop in central Manchester where parents living on a low income can shop for presents for their children with points-based credit.

The shop, which is stocked full of donated toys, food and festive treats, is expected to have over 1000 customers in the run up to Christmas.

We are also organising two toy fairs in community venues in Gorton and Langworthy, and a huge children’s party in a city centre location the weekend before Christmas

Roseanne Sweeney, chief executive of Wood Street Mission, said: “Christmas is a difficult and stressful time of year for families who are struggling financially and often dread the expense and expectations attached to the season.”

“Our projects aim to alleviate the financial burden and bring some festive cheer to kids whose parents can’t afford to buy them the toys and treats many of their peers take for granted.”

Almost 400 corporate volunteers from neighbouring businesses will help out in the shop over the festive period in order to ensure children get their presents in time for the Big Day.

Toy and food donations for the Christmas shop can be dropped off at Wood Street Mission, 26 Wood Street, Manchester M3 3EF from 9am - 4.30pm Monday - Friday. Our shop is open until Thursday 22 December. Or make a financial donation to our Appeal here
