Christmas Community Shop

Our Christmas community shop was a big success.

The shop, which allows families on a low income purchase toys for their children with virtual credit, had over 1000 family visits in the run up to Christmas. 

It was stocked full of new toys, books, food and festive treats donated by the local community.

The Christmas shop is unique and was designed to allow mums and dads choose toys suitable to give to their children as presents on Christmas Day – just like any other parent.

Parents were allocated a set amount of credit to spend in the shop for each child up to the age of 18, and typically got three toys for each child. They were also able to ‘purchase’ food and treats to help get them through the holidays.

Feedback from families visiting the shop has been wonderful with many parents leaving in tears having found gifts on all their children’s ‘Santa lists’.

Previously, we allocated toys to families at Christmas time based on the age and gender of children.
