Volunteers are essential to our work here at Wood Street Mission – without our generous supporters who give up their free time to help us here at Wood Street or in their local community, we would never be able to help so many local children and families in need.
Interested in volunteering? There are lots of different ways that you can help Wood Street Mission in your spare time:
Helping with our Project Work
This involves helping to quality check and sort the thousands of donations we receive throughout the year – clothing, bedding, toys, food, children's books and items of baby equipment. Opportunities for this type of volunteer work vary throughout the year – please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator, Des Lynch on 0161 834 3140 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org, for information about our current vacancies.
Becoming a Collection Point
Could you act as a donation collection point for your local community? If you have the room at home/work/school/place of worship to store donations from your local area you could be a great help to Wood Street Mission. We can collect from you as often as you need (up to once a week) and can provide you with leaflets and appeal posters to help .
This is a wonderful way to help Wood Street Mission – it helps us to raise more essential donations and saves us time and money as we only have to collect from one address rather than several. We always need people to help us in this way. Our collections cover large parts of the region so please do contact our office for more information.
Leafleting & Posters
We need volunteers to help us distribute leaflets in residential areas. This helps spread the word to more local people about our work and how they can help with their unwanted clothing and children's items. Just popping a leaflet through every door on your street is a great help to Wood Street Mission. More people knowing about our work will help generate more donations so we can continue to respond to the increasing number of families that are being referred to us for help each week.
Similarly, if you have space on your notice board at your place of work, children's school, local community centre, gym or place of worship perhaps you could display one of our appeal posters?
We always need people to help us in this way so please do get in touch if you would like a batch of leaflets or posters to distribute.
Becoming an Ambassador
Are you adept at public speaking? We are always in need of volunteers to promote our work by giving speeches at schools, places of worship and community groups. We can provide you with the information about our history and current projects along with visual aids to help you tell our story.
