What the Dickens?

Tread in the footsteps of Charles Dickens in this specially commissioned walk which will take in sights of Victorian and contemporary significance around Deansgate.

The great novelist and social reformer was shocked by the conditions local families were living in in the mid C19. The area may have changed but what would he make of the fact that 1 in 3 local children is still living below the poverty line.

The What the Dickens? walk on 7 September begins at our building on Wood Street at 6pm where walkers will get a tour of the building and talk about our work over the years.

The walk is circular and will set off at 6.30pm finishing up at the Gas Lamp pub on Bridge Street, formerly our kitchens, at 8.  It will be led by Green Badge tour guide Suzanne Hindle, who has researched our archives held at the John Rylands library.

The cover price of £7.00 includes a pie and pea supper and drink at Wood Street Mission. Places on the walk are limited so book now via  Eventbrite.
