Books Are GRRREAT!

Our books clubs promote reading among children and their parents. Held during holidays and half term breaks, they allow families participate in literacy based activities and choose from and take home a wide range of quality books.

Did You Know?

-There is a strong link between the number of books at home and reading ability but children growing up in poor households often have few books at home.

- Parents have a key role to play encouraging literacy and educational attainment. Children who are read to daily by their parents are much less likely to grow up in poverty than children whose parents don’t read to them.

- Literacy is a passport to a good education and a route out of poverty. Adults who struggle with literacy are much more likely to be unemployed and will find it hard to escape low paid, insecure jobs.

We have launched a major appeal for books for our book clubs. Donate new or good quality second hand books to our book clubs and help build a brighter future for local children living in poverty. Download a poster to publicise our Appeal here.

You can also help the appeal by texting BOOK to 70500 to donate £5

or donating money on our JustGiving page which can be accessed here

Wood Street Mission (registered charity number 1078337) will receive 100% of your donation. You will be charged for one standard text message plus your donation.
