History Exhibition

Our history exhibition Queues Clogs & Redemption is opening on Wednesday 9 September at our historic central Manchester building.

The exhibition charts our work down through the years from the days of “rescuing” street children in the nineteenth century, sending tens of thousands to the seaside in the early twentieth, and running a city gym in the 1980s.

Speakers at the launch are Julie-Marie Strange, Professor of British History University of Manchester, Trevor Johnson, Director of Design Havas Lynx Europe and Roseanne Sweeney, chief executive Wood Street Mission,

The exhibition is being accompanied by a historic walk with Manchester tour guide Suzanne Hindle from Wood Street to the Marble Arch pub in Ancoats and a one-off ‘Wood Street’ bitter courtesy of Marble Brewery.

The event will also be used to launch our Post Your Memory campaign to help us document our past and raise awareness about child poverty in Manchester and Salford in the run up to our 150th Anniversary in 2019.

The launch event takes place from 5.30 – 7.00pm at Wood Street Mission, 26 Wood Street, Manchester M3 3EF. Speeches start at 6.00 sharp.

For more details and to book a place at the event or walk go to https://queuesclogsandredemption2015.eventbrite.co.uk. Alternatively contact Sophie Bell by emailing sophie@woodstreetmission.org.uk or calling 0161 834 3140.

Come and join us for for a glass of wine or bitter (!) and learn about our part in Manchester's social history.
